General information

The Single Panel Oxycodone Rapid Test (Urine) test is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the detection of Oxycodone in human urine at a concentration of 100 ng/mL. This test can detect other related compounds, please refer to the Analytical Specificity table in this package insert.

Oxycodone is a semi synthetic opioid with a structure similar to codeine. The drug is produced by modifying thebaine, an alkaloid found in the opium poppy. Oxycodone, like all opiate agonists, provides pain relief by acting on the opioid receptors in the spinal column, brain and probably directly on the affected tissue.

Oxycodone is prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain under the well-known pharmaceutical trade names of OxyContin®, Tylox®, Percodan® and Percocet®. While Tylox®, Percodan® and Percocet® contain only a small dose of oxycodone hydrochloride combined with other analgesics, such as acetaminophen and aspirin, OxyContin consists exclusively of gradually-releasing oxycodone hydrochloride. Oxycodone metabolizes by demethylation into oxymorphone and noroxycodone. In a 24-hour urine, 33-61% of a single 5 mg oral dose is excreted with the primary drug constituents unchanged (13-19%), drug conjugated (7-29%), and conjugated oxymorphone (13 -14%) 1. The detection window of oxycodone in urine is similar to that of other opioids such as Morphine.

The OXY (Urine) rapid test is a rapid urine control test that can be performed without the use of instruments. The test uses a monoclonal antibody to selectively detect high levels of Oxycodone in urine. The OXY (Urine) rapid test provides a positive result when the Oxycodone in the urine exceeds 100 ng/mL.

Test procedure

Interpret results within minutes for simultaneous specimen collection and screening.

1. Allow the test, urine specimen, and/or controls to reach room temperature (15-30ºC) prior to testing.
2. Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test panel from the sealed pouch and use it within one hour.
3. Remove the cap.
4. With the arrow pointing toward the urine specimen, immerse the test panel vertically in the urine specimen for at least 10 to 15 seconds. Immerse the dipstick to at least the level of the wavy lines, but not above the arrow on the test panel.
5. Replace the cap and place the test panel on a non-absorbent flat surface.
6. Start the timer and wait for the colored line(s) to appear.
7. The drug strip result should be read at 5 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.

Interpretation of the results

Negative result:* A colored line appears in the Control region (C) and colored lines appear in the Test region (T). This negative result means that the concentrations in the urine sample are below the designated cut-off levels for a particular drug tested.

*NOTE: The shade of the colored lines(s) in the Test region (T) may vary. The result should be considered negative whenever there is even a faint line.

Positive result: A colored line appears in the Control region (C) and NO line appears in the Test region (T). The positive result means that the drug concentration in the urine sample is greater than the designated cut-off for a specific drug.

Invalid result: No line appears in the Control region (C). Insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for Control line failure. Read the directions again and repeat the test with a new test card. If the result is still invalid, contact us.
