General information

The Single Panel Methadone Rapid Test (Urine) is a side scrolling chromatographic immunoassay for the detection of Methadone in urine at a threshold concentration of 300ng/ml. This test will detect other related compounds, please refer to the Analytical Specificity table in this package insert.

Methadone is a narcotic analgesic for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is also used in the treatment of heroin addiction (opiate addiction: Vicodin, Leachate, Morphine, etc…). Oral methadone is very different from methadone. Oral methadone is partially stored in the liver for later use. IV methadone acts more like heroin.

Methadone is a long-acting pain reliever that produces effects lasting 12 to 48 hours. Theoretically, methadone relieves the subject of the pressures of obtaining illegal heroin, the dangers of injections, and the emotional ups and downs of most opiates. Methadone, when taken for long periods in high doses, can cause a very long period of abstinence.

The symptoms of methadone withdrawal are more prolonged and more difficult than those caused by heroin withdrawal, however phased substitution and removal of methadone is a commonly accepted method for detoxification by patients and therapists.

The MTD rapid test (Urine) is a rapid urine control test that can be performed without the use of any instrumentation. The test uses a monoclonal antibody to selectively detect elevated levels of methadone in the urine. The MTD rapid test (Urine) gives a positive result when the methadone in urine exceeds 300 ng/mL.

Test procedure

Interpret results within minutes for simultaneous specimen collection and screening.

  1. Allow the test, urine specimen, and/or controls to reach room temperature (15-30ºC) prior to testing.
  2. Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test panel from the sealed pouch and use it within one hour.
  3. Remove the cap.
  4. With the arrow pointing toward the urine specimen, immerse the test panel vertically in the urine specimen for at least 10 to 15 seconds. Immerse the dipstick to at least the level of the wavy lines, but not above the arrow on the test panel.
  5. Replace the cap and place the test panel on a non-absorbent flat surface.
  6. Start the timer and wait for the colored line(s) to appear.
  7. The drug strip result should be read at 5 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.

Interpretation of the results

Negative result:* A colored line appears in the Control region (C) and colored lines appear in the Test region (T). This negative result means that the concentrations in the urine sample are below the designated cut-off levels for a particular drug tested.

*NOTE: The shade of the colored lines(s) in the Test region (T) may vary. The result should be considered negative whenever there is even a faint line.

Positive result: A colored line appears in the Control region (C) and NO line appears in the Test region (T). The positive result means that the drug concentration in the urine sample is greater than the designated cut-off for a specific drug.

Invalid result: No line appears in the Control region (C). Insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for Control line failure. Read the directions again and repeat the test with a new test card. If the result is still invalid, contact us.
