Influenza A-B Rapid Test

The Influenza A/B test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of influenza viruses, specifically Influenza A and Influenza B, in respiratory samples like nasal or throat swabs. The test is essential during flu seasons to confirm whether an individual has influenza and to distinguish between Influenza A and Influenza B strains. Accurate diagnosis helps guide treatment decisions and manage the spread of the flu, contributing to public health.

Product information

The Influenza A-B Rapid Test a lateral flow, qualitative immunochromatographic rapid test for the detection of both influenza viruses types A and B from nasal or throat swab, nasal aspirate and nasopharyngeal washes.

Advantages of Influenza A-B test

  • Easy to perform
  • No complex sample collection needed
  • Accurate test result

General information

The method employs a unique combination of monoclonal dye conjugate and monoclonal solid phase antibodies to selectively identify Influenza A or Influenza B with a high degree of sensitivity and specificity. After collection and treatment, the sample is added to the sample wells of the reaction device. As the test sample flows through the absorbent device, the labelled antibody-dye conjugate binds to the Influenza A or Influenza B antigens (when present in the sample) forming an antibody antigen complex. This complex binds to the monoclonal antibody in the positive reaction zone producing a rose-pink colored band.

In the absence of Influenza A or Influenza B antigens, there is no line in the positive corresponding reaction zone. The reaction mixture continues flowing through the absorbent device, past the positive reaction zone and control zone. Unbound conjugate binds to the reagent in the control zone producing a rose-pink colored band demonstrating that the reagents are functioning correctly.

Test procedure

  1. Bring all reagents at room temperature.
  2. Remove the test device from the pouch by tearing along the split.
  3. Using the dropper filter-tube, add 5 drops (150 μL) of the extracted solution into each sample well (↕).
  4. Read the test results 15 minutes after adding the sample.

Interpretation of the results

Negative result Influenza A and/or B: The (C) control line for A and/or B is present, but the (T) line does not appear.

Positive result Influenza A and/or B: The (C) control line and the (T) line for A and/or B is present.

Invalid result Influenza A and/or B: The (C) control line for A and/or B does not appear.
